I want my kids to learn to appreciate the wonder in the world and find meaning through art

Hi, I'm Carla Perlas, I work as the VP of Communications at theAsianparent, the No. 1 content & community platform for parents in Southeast Asia. Carrying over 18 years of experience in the media, tech, and startup space, I dedicated most of my career in building content and communities catering to women and parents. I have led regional content and marketing teams to deliver reliable and relevant information to target audiences online and offline; but my biggest and most challenging role of all is raising two little girls to become the best versions they can be.

I've always been drawn to visual art. I marvel at how an artist can evoke emotions and thoughts with the use of colors, shapes, lines, and textures, and create something so alluring or provocative. I also love the juxtaposition that art poses--that while the experience of it is subjective, it still captures the collective consciousness; or that it can be art for art's sake, but it can also go much deeper to demonstrate one's inner turmoil. I'm a frustrated artist, to be honest! I wish I had the skill and talent to create art, to paint, draw, or sculpt, and express myself through the cohesion or chaos of colors, shapes, lines, and textures. I even took up IB higher level art in high school and a masters in museum studies. But alas, I found my calling instead in the written word and became an editor by profession!

These days, I find artistic joy in helping my two daughters on their arts & crafts projects, and in bringing them along to museums and art galleries, something I've exposed them to since they were babies. I want them to learn to appreciate the wonder in the world and find meaning through art, especially on those days when things may seem absurd or pointless and they need something to lift their spirits and make sense of it all.

I completely believe in the mission of helping mamas find happiness and balance through art. For over 15 years, I've built a career in building supportive platforms for mothers--so combine this experience with my love of art, and that makes being an advisor at Mama on Palette a sort of homecoming for me. I've found my perfect home!
